Planning on visiting Nessebar old town soon? Here’s what to expect. Nessebar old town is located on a peninsula off of the coast of Bulgaria. The old town is considered one of the oldest cities in Europe, many people refer to it as a museum city with over 3000 years of history combined into the small area. Connected to the mainland by a small road and walkway, the old town is a popular tourist attraction.
What To See
Walking along the bridge to the old town, you will be greeted by an old wooden windmill. This is one of only three that have been preserved and really sets the tone for the historical city you are entering. Next up at the end of the walkway is the St Nicholas statue. Often referred to as the patron saint of sailors and looks over the port and harbours.
Entering into the old town there are plenty of old buildings and ruins to see. There are many houses and churches with amazing stone patterns to see as you wander the cobblestone streets. There is also a promenade around the edge of the peninsula, so you can take a walk and enjoy the views of the sea and boats.
Weather
During the summer months in Bulgaria, the temperature sits around 28°c, so water, hats and suncream are important when exploring.
Food
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in Nessebar old town to pop in to on your visit. My favourite thing to eat in Bulgaria was their ice cream. They have so many shops with so many different flavours on offer.
Other Activities
Outside of exploring the buildings and shops in the old town, you could also get a boat tour. There are multiple options for boat trips that will take you for views of the coast. The Nesebar Archaeological Museum is another activity you could add to your trip visiting Nessebar. If you are interested in the history of Nessebar, the museum holds many artefacts from the different cultures that have impacted the town over the last 3000 years.
