Cappadocia Itinerary
The beautiful Cappadocia, a region in the centre of Turkey, is best known for it’s hot air balloons at sunrise. Hundreds of hot air balloons take to the skies every morning making it a bucket list destination for many.
Many people choose to pass through Cappadocia very quickly just to experience the balloons, but I would recommend spending 3-4 days here as there is plenty of other things to do and see too.
Day 1 – Sunrise Balloon Ride and Exploring
You should start your first day in Cappadocia bright and early with your balloon ride. There are many companies to choose from, we used Voyager Balloons who were great. Most experiences last about an hour and skilled pilots take you over the unique landscape with valleys and volcanic rock towers. I recommend booking the hot air balloon on your first day as they are weather dependent. By booking on your first day it gives you a few more opportunities in case of any cancellations.
After your balloon ride and possibly a nap! You should spend some time exploring the streets of Göreme. There are plenty of shops, interesting streets and cave houses and hotels to take a look around.
Day 2 – Balloons from the ground, Lunch and ATV sunset
As amazing as going in a hot air balloon is I found it to be equally as great watching from the ground here in Cappadocia. So you should definitely be getting up early on all the mornings you spend here. Most hotels have open rooftops to watch the balloons or head to a viewpoint.
Turkey is also known for its great food, so enjoy a nice lunch at one of the many restaurants. Two of my favourites were Kale Terrasse and Kebapzade.
After a great lunch, it’s time for another fun activity ATV’s! Head out through the valleys on an ATV, with a guide taking you to all the best spots. Enjoy the views and a lovely sunset over the rocky landscape.
Day 3 – Guided Tour
On the final day, I recommend taking one of the guided day tours. The most popular tours are the red and green routes. These tours take you around many amazing historical sites and the different valleys. Some even include a pottery workshop! but pick the one that looks best for you and enjoy your last day.
