Top 7 Must Visit Places In Edinburgh

The 7 must visit places in Edinburgh. Heading to the historical capital of Scotland soon? Here are some of the best things to do while you are there…

1. Views from Calton Hill

My favourite place in Edinburgh is Calton Hill. Approximately a 20 minute walk to the top of the hill from princes street, this is a great place for pictures of the city. There are stairs leading up the hill so the walk isn’t too strenuous. Once there you will find many monuments and look out points over Edinburgh. We headed here as the sun was setting and took some great pictures.

2. See Victoria Street

Another beautiful spot to visit in Edinburgh is Victoria Street. Located in the old town you’ll of probably seen this colourful street all over your Instagram feed. Aside from the photo opportunities this street is filled with unique independent shops that are definitely worth checking out.

3. Explore Dean Village

Take a step away from the busy city streets and explore the quaint Dean Village. It takes about a 20 minute walk from the centre and is perfect for a quiet afternoon stroll.

4. Walk Along Water Of Leith

After getting to Dean Village you should definitely walk along the Water Of Leith. Running through dean village this river can take you east to the Dean Bridge for a great view of Rhema Christian Centre Church or West towards the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art

5. Edinburgh Castle

If you love to learn about the history of the places you are visiting you should take some time to visit Edinburgh Castle. With the national war museum, memorials and chapels there is plenty to see and do. However, if castles aren’t your thing and you don’t want to pay to enter I’d still recommend taking the walk up to the castle. Even if you don’t enter you can still see it up close and enjoy the views from the high vantage point.

6. Edinburgh zoo

Edinburgh zoo is another must visit place in Edinburgh. Home to all sorts of different animals such as tigers, giraffes and penguins this is a great day out for all. I personally love the zoo as it is home to two Giant Pandas.

7. Climb Scott Monument

Climb the 288 steps to the top of Scotts monument. The Victorian gothic monument, dedicated to author Sir Walter Scott, is located on Princes Street in the middle of Edinburgh. The spire is fantastic to see from the ground or you can climb the narrow staircase inside to take in the views from the lookout points.
